Q. How has the current health insurance crisis impacted CF Solutions since they do not mandate co-pays up front? Why am I asked to pay $20 a month toward my insurance co-pay balance now? Is there a risk of CF Solutions not being here for future patients?

A. All insurance companies require patients to pay their co-pay on service or supplies submitted to them for payment. This is not a recent development but has been required for decades. As many know already, CF Solutions has NEVER required the patient to pay their co-pays up front before releasing their meds like most pharmacies (i.e. Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Drug Mart, etc.).

Regrettably, over the course of time insurance companies are placing an increasingly greater financial responsibility on the patient and consequently this has placed a mounting economic burden on CF Solutions and the way we do business.

While we do not require patient co-pays upfront we have always required ALL of our patients to pay monthly toward the balance of their insurance co-pays. Those individuals who have made no attempt to be responsible in this area have strained our financial ability to help those who are without insurance. If this practice continues it is not unreasonable to surmise that CF Solutions may be forced to change our policy for co-pays being required upfront or possibly even worse, shutting our doors all together. Sadly, for countless patients and their families this could mean returning to being forced to choose between adequately providing for their family or having necessary medications for their child.

At CF Solutions, we have remained in business because we have embraced the sobering responsibility of taking a proactive approach to the incredible task of taking care of our CF patients and families. For this reason we encourage all of our patients to pay minimally $20 monthly toward their co-pay balance. For some we realize this may be a huge sacrifice but it pales in comparison to the consequences of not having CF Solutions at all.

Q. What about co-pays? Is it true that families are not required to pay their insurance co-pay?

A. NO. While we do not require patient co-pays up front we have always required ALL of our patients to pay monthly toward the balance of their co-pays. We encourage all of our patients to pay minimally $20 monthly toward their co-pay balance. We are confident this is not an unreasonable amount and averages out to be only sixty-seven cents a day.

Q. I received an unsuspected check from my insurance company. What is it for and what do I do with it?
A. Sadly, Christmas has not come early although that would be wonderful. The check you recently received from your insurance company, according to their records, is likely a reimbursement for money they assume you have spent above your yearly deductible. However, they have not taken into consideration your balance for your medication deductibles have not been paid up front at CF Solutions.

Therefore, this check should be endorsed and returned to CF Solutions where it will be applied toward your outstanding co-pay balance. Failure to do so will result in a suspension of your ability to further receive medications or services from CF Solutions.

Q. I am unable to place my order online and receive a prompt that states, "Please contact Linda Jenson at CF Solutions."
A. Your account has been flagged for an event requiring your immediate attention before further assistance from CF Solutions can be provided (i.e. Your I.V. pump rental remains outstanding, etc.). Please follow the instructions, as requested, to avoid further delay of your medication shipment.
